Sightings in the Altai
2006 Expeditions The Foundation for Sustainable Development Altai (FSDA) and the Altai Assistance Project (AAP) have joined together to support development of a community based tourism network in the Altai Republic. We are offering tourists and adventurers an opportunity to enjoy traveling in the Altai and at the same time helping expand and strengthen the Altai community based tourism network. If you travel with us, your feedback will become part of the learning process for the local travel entrepreneurs and community planners. In exchange for a trip of astounding beauty and exposure to ancient culture, we ask you to give us your feedback and suggestions, and your willingness to be patient if things do not go as you might hope. This is a learning process for everyone involved, and your chance to shape the future of travel to the Altai. Welcome to Altai Republic! The Valley of the Chelushman River is a 1-km steep vertical canyon with unique geologic and sand formations. This is the home of the ancient Scythian civilization called Pazyryk (500-600 BC). You will learn about the local culture at museums, hear traditional throat singing, and visit burial grounds. You begin the trip home by traveling up Teletskoye Lake by boat. Trip includes trekking, camping, local entertainment and lectures. Click here to see complete itinerary.
